Volunteer Coordinator Report: Julie Linder

*In November we had 420 volunteer hours at Garden City. Thank you volunteers!

* Starting December 21 st, we will be participating in Dominos Pizza Dough Raising Nights. Our night will be the third Thursday of each month, during the school year. Domino’s prints and delivers flyers to the school to be put in Wednesday envelopes. Garden City families order pizza on our designated night and Dominos gives the school $2.00 per order. Dominos does all the work so we have nothing to lose.

* Box Tops for Education. A flyer will go home in Wednesday envelopes this week encouraging families to save and send in Box Tops. Our goal this year is $500. So far we have earned about $260. We are also going to send home a card in a ziplock bag asking families to save 30 Box Tops in the bag, fill out the card with their child’s name and return it to school for a prize. Nan has some pencils we can use for prizes. Cards need to be turned in by February 21 st to get a prize.

* Ink cartridges: There is a collection box in the entryway. Is PTO collecting them? It is unknown who is in charge of them. Julie will check to see if there are even any ink cartridges in the box. (There are!)

Other: Tracy Corwin

She has sent in the Campbell Soup labels and ordered the ball holder the ESP’s wanted for recess.

We have about 1,000 points remaining. Staff will determine what we want to save up for next.

Other: Juan Jaimes

The idea of collecting cans at GC for cash was brought up. Todd will talk to Michelle Leopoldt to see if this is something Student Council could organize. It would also have to be approved by the district as some type of collection container would need to be on the grounds.

Guest Speaker: Superintendent, Susan Hintz

Some of the topics Susan touched on were Garden City’s success in making AYP after we didn’t a few years ago, the importance of getting the whole community involved with the schools and about collaborating with schools outside our district to learn their best practices. Some ideas that were tossed around were year around school, early education, and parents learning English with their children.

Our next meeting is January, 22 nd at 6:00pm. Guest speakers will be Sandy Sivertsen and Tonya Allen. They will present information regarding the Family Project.
