PTO Meeting Minutes 4-16-07

Attendees: Amy Watkins, Gus and Helen Cole, Yia Xiong, Linda Mraz, Angelique McClain, Maria Garcia, Pai Vu, Henry Yang, Kim Winkelman, Pang Moua and Julie Linder

Angelique McClain (parent) presented PTO with a check from Target Corp. for $952.01.  She submitted Garden City in an employee program and we were selected.

Carnival Update: Pang Moua

Carnival is Friday, May 4 th from 5:00p-7:30p

Crystal VFW donated $250 to pay for a moonwalk and a dunk tank.

Talent show acts will be previewed by Michelle Leopoldt and Pang Moua.

The next planning meeting is Tuesday, April 24 th at 4:30p.

Treasurer's Report : Kim Winkelman

She received a check from Northport Medical for $25.00 for carnival.

Club Choice orders are due Wednesday, April 18 th .

Book Fair profit was about $800.

She expects a large bill from Jill in a few weeks.

Current account balance is $14,347.07

Volunteer Coordinator's Report : Julie Linder

In March we had over 360 volunteer hours.

Volunteer Luncheon is May 1 st 11:30a - 1pm

Teacher appreciation week is May 6-12.

Next Parent Volunteer Work Day is April 27 th 

Box Tops - Tracy Corwin suggested having kids save over the summer and then return so many in the fall for a prize.  Kim and Amy will purchase sandwich ziplock bags, Julie will print up a card and send them out in Wednesday envelopes at the end of May.  It was decided that the goal for a prize would be 50 box tops.

Family Project: Pang Moua

There was a good turnout for the April meeting.  They are in the process of planning the May meeting.  The date is TBD.  A grant was submitted for field trips for families to go on next year.  Family Project currently targets K-2.  They will add 3 rd grade next year.

Future of PTO : All

It was felt PTO should remain as is for now.  Amy and Kim will present at the May Family Project meeting to get some input and ask for help.

They will most likely present at Family Project Meetings next year and only meet as a PTO a couple of times a year.

Officers for next year: Kim Winkelman and Amy Watkins agreed to submit their names for Treasurer and President for next year.  The election will take place at the May meeting.  When they present to Family Project in May they will ask for parents who might be interested in being Secretary and Vice President.  They will also ask for parents who might be interested in shadowing them next year to learn more about the PTO Officer roles.

Other :  Maren Dahl (1 st Grade) is retiring at the end of the school year.

Our next meeting is Monday, May 14 th at 6:00pm in the Media Center
