Garden City Academic Committee Charge Statement 2005-2006 |
The focus areas for the Academic Committee for 2005-06 are:
- Develop homework expectations by grade level
- Continue identifying areas in reading and math needing improvements
- Revisit the Kansas Writing/Six Traits discussion
- Develop a list of staff development needs in math and training options
- Oversee the Castle Templates project to determine the Technology needed to complete assessments and data collection in reading and math
Tasks for homework expectations:
- Bather teacher/grade level information for homework
- Prepare a building-wide homework grid
- Present information to Staff/Site Council
- Develop a grade level document of homework expectations
- Discussion of homework completion, late assignments and consequences
Tasks for identifying areas needing improvement in reading/math
- Review data
- Make recommendations
- Assess pro’s/con’s of new reading language arts program
- Select building-wide assessment tools (DRA, SRI, Dibbles, Unit Tests, Read Naturally)
Tasks for Kansas Writing/6 Traits discussion
- Compare/contrast each program
- Prepare questions for full staff discussion
- Develop an action plan
Tasks for the templates project are:
- Compile template needs by PLC team—review @ academic meeting
- Select building data collection in reading/math
- Complete request forms and give them to team leaders
Tasks for Staff Development in math strategies
- Brainstorm a list of ideas and options
- Share/explore opportunities
