Mrs. Klein’s Class

Literacy Syllabus

It is the objective of our literacy class to develop the students' skills as readers, writers and communicators. We will do this by reinforcing strategies in comprehension, word decoding, story development, basic editing and speaking skills. Through all of our activities, it is my intent to encourage students to become life-long readers and writers and confident speakers.

Grades will be based on individual performance on literature assignments, written projects and oral presentations. There will also be some opportunities to demonstrate performance during group work. Some activities will include a predetermined set of criteria for grading, in the form of a rubric. This should help students to focus their performance efforts.

Homework will be given on an "as needed" basis. It is hoped that most assigned tasks can be completed in class. However, ALL students will be asked to spend 15 minutes EACH evening in quiet independent reading. I would ask that the time spent reading would be recorded in the assignment notebook and initialed by parents on a daily basis.

I look forward to being your child's literacy teacher this coming year. I know we will have many great adventures together in the books we read and stories we write. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get a hold of me by email, note or phone.

Sincerely,

Pam Klein
