MISSION STATEMENTHome+School+Community Creating a partnership in which all learners achieve their personal best.
Elm Creek Elementary serves approximately 560 students and their families through a variety of programs serving both the regular, English Language Learner, and Special Education student populations. We are proud of our active parent volunteer program that supports student, classroom, and building needs in a variety of ways. Grade level parties, School Store, and Partners in Art are just a few of the special programs that parents lead. Students have music and/or physical education learning opportunities every other day. We believe it’s important to educate the “whole child.” Music programs give students performance opportunities. Students serve as student volunteers, school safety patrol members, “peer” helpers, “recycling team” members, “computer clean team” members, and lunchroom helpers. Students have opportunities to participate in Continental Math League, Read Naturally, Word Masters, D.A.R.E., Flyer’s Club (extended day programs for math and reading support) and a variety of Community Education enrichment courses offered throughout the year. Two computer labs and computers in the classrooms offer our students learning opportunities in technology. Included in the special education support programs are Speech and Language, Full Service Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Adaptive Physical Education, Music Therapy, a Cooperative-Kindergarten (Kindergarten support) program, and two Skills (Developmentally Cognitively Delayed) programs. Elm Creek also has an ELL (English Language Learners) program and a Be-Four Program serving the 4-year old population in District 279. Elm Creek has additional staffing to meet the needs of students and support the variety of programs offered. Included are a Volunteer Coordinator, Talented and Gifted Teacher, Psychologist, Behavior Intervention Teacher, Social Worker, Cultural Liaison, Counselor, Band and Orchestra Instructors, Information Technology Specialist, Technology Support Professional, Physical Education, Instrumental and Vocal Music Specialists, and Educational Support Professionals. Elm Creek houses a Kidstop program to care for students before and after the regular school hours, as well as half-day Kindergartners. An active PTO supports a variety of fun, family events throughout the school year: School Carnival, School Dance, BINGO nights, Holiday Secret Shoppe, Barnes and Noble Principal Night, Spring BBQ, Fun Run, and Book Fair. Elm Creek uses the Responsive Classroom approach to support students, enrich the learning climate, and build the skills of respect, responsibility, and resiliency. Responsive Classroom is based on sound principles of child development theory and on a commitment to teach the social skills of C.A.R.E.S. (Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control). Morning Meetings in each classroom help to build classroom community and an acceptance of differences. Students wear nametags. Nametags provide safety and help to build school-wide community. School Improvement Goals for the 2006-2007 school year are:
