Second
graders are full of excitement over things they boast of already knowing and
things they’re eager to learn about. During
this school year, these are some of the things students look forward to: o
Field trip
to the Science Museum of Minnesota o
Science
Units: Weather, Classification, Dinosaurs,
Balancing
and Weighing o
Learning
Microsoft Word program in the computer lab o
Earning a
reading medal for reading 300 or more minutes per month o
Math games
that teach facts, time, money o
Art
activities Second
graders are becoming: o
Aware of
others more and more so we help them learn to be respectful, helpful, kind and
cooperative o
Independent
so we help them learn to choose wisely and to see the good in themselves o
Busier with
interests of their own, so we help them learn to work towards goals and use
their time well o
Individuals
with thoughts to share, ideas to contribute, and questions to ask so we help
them learn to express themselves both in speaking and in writing. You
will notice less “free time” and more directed work. Give your child time to adjust to the change from first grade
to second. Just like every year, we need time to get to know each other.
Second graders and second grade teachers are enthusiastic, fun-loving
people! |
