MARK REPORTING DAY: On Friday, March 12, 2010, students do not have school, as teachers will be completing progress reports. Please be on the lookout for the progress report in your child’s Wednesday envelope on Wednesday, March 17, 2010.

STUDENT PROGRESS REPORTS: On Wednesday, March 17, 2010 you will receive your child’s progress report indicating his/her academic and behavioral performance during the second trimester. Please discuss your child’s progress report. Be encouraging and supportive of your child. If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher. Working together, we can create a supportive network for your learner.

QUALIFYING FOR HONOR ROLL IN GRADES 4-6: To qualify for the “A” honor roll, students must receive all A’s with two B’s allowed. No C’s or D’s are allowed. To qualify for the “B” honor roll, students must receive all B’s or above with two C’s allowed. No D’s or lower are allowed. In addition, to qualify for the “A” or “B” honor roll no N’s are permitted in any subject area.

HONOR ROLL BREAKFAST GRADES 4, 5, AND 6: We will be hosting another honor roll breakfast for qualifying 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students and their parents/guardians. If your child will be recognized, you will receive an invitation to the event. It will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 8:10-8:40 a.m.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR CREST VIEW’S MEDIA CENTER: Our next RIF, ( Reading is Fundamental) book give away will be Thursday, March 25. We need parent volunteers to help keep the tables of books looking neat!! This would be a great opportunity for a WATCH D.O.G. dad! If you can help between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in our Media Center, please contact Sue Risse at 763-561-5165, ext. 552.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: This program is for children that will be attending Zanewood, Crest View, or Fair Oaks Elementary for kindergarten in the fall of 2011. Children will attend half days, Monday through Friday. Children will be assigned either A.M. (morning), or P.M.(afternoon). School Readiness is an ISD 279 Osseo School District preschool program that prepares children for kindergarten. Parent involvement is required through activities such as open house, conferences, evening events, and take-home projects. No fees are required for this program. Parents are encouraged to transport; however bus transportation is available. For more information or to request an application call 763-391-8776.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION, KEMPS & LAND O’LAKES MILK CAPS: Keep sending in your box tops and milk caps for our contest. The last day for the contest is Friday, February 19th. The classroom with the most box tops and milk caps wins a popcorn party.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT: If you have a child who will be 5 years old before September 1, 2010, it is time to begin the enrollment process. Please call, or stop by the Crest View office if you have a kindergartener and have not received a brown enrollment packet, or if you need help in completing the paperwork. If you have questions, call the school office at 763-561-5165.

CHILDREN NEED DOSE 2 OF FLU VACCINE: Data shows that as of January 21, 2010, 44 to 58 percent of children have received their second dose of H1N1 flu vaccine. For children to be fully protected, it is recommended that children under 10 years old should receive two doses of H1N1 vaccine and those under 9 years old should receive two doses of seasonal flu vaccine if it is their first year vaccinated. The two doses should be spaced apart by about four weeks. The H1N1 vaccine and the seasonal flu vaccine can be given together, unless both are being given as a nasal spray. Nurse Lynette
G. R. A. S. P. GRAND RAPIDS ACADEMIC SUMMER PROGRAM: The GRASP program is a 9-week correspondence summer program in math and reading for children who have completed kindergarten to 8 th grade. The program seeks to help students retain skills learned during the school year by providing review exercises. Students should enroll at the grade just completed or the level that is appropriate for them. Lessons are scored, recorded, and returned. There is an award system. Awards are mailed soon after Labor Day. To enroll your child/ren, you must complete the enrollment form and forward it with the enrollment fee to the address indicated. The fees for the summer 2010 are $37 for one subject and $61 for both subjects. Enrollment forms are available by calling 616-819-2548 or may be printed from the Web site: www.grpublicschools.org/grasp. Sample pages and objectives may be viewed on this Web site. Return form and fee to: GRASP, 2550Burritt NW, Grand Rapids MI 49504. Deadline: Enrollment must be POSTMARKED by June 11, 2010.

OASIS 2010: The Osseo Area Source of Information and Support will be having a meeting on February 9, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Weaver Lake Elementary School-Media Center, 15900 Weaver Lake Road, Maple Grove. The topic will be Building Attachment Behaviors with Traumatized Children: Practical Strategies for Home and School. You will see safe ways to partner with kids to manage strong feelings, calm their bodies and try to problem solve. Childcare: Contact Michele Vance at 651-631-3219. This program is open to all parents, caregivers and staff.

ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Money is available to help pay your heating bills. The MN Energy Assistance Program (EAP) helps with your heating bills and to connect you to their services. Please look for the flyer in your child’s Wednesday envelope.

A district wide school closure will be broadcast as “Osseo District 279” If you disagree with a decision to hold school on a day when you believe the weather is hazardous, you are encouraged to keep your child home. WELCOME TO THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR: I approach each new school year with great enthusiasm, as I am privileged to work with outstanding staff members, students, and families. I look forward to the new opportunities that my eighth year as Crest View’s principal will provide. We welcome our new families with excitement. We love to have new children come to our building and bring with them their many gifts and talents.

Crest View is committed to the community we serve and we strongly encourage you to get involved: attend school sponsored family events, attend conferences, be a classroom volunteer, chaperone a field trip and help your child with homework. There are many ways for you to be involved with your child’s education. RELEASING STUDENTS DURING THE DAY: Our student’s safety is our main priority! For this reason, it is important that parents and adults who will pick up your child are listed on your emergency form. We will not release your child to anyone not listed on the form.

LUNCHROOM NEWS: Parents/guardians: Students that are eligible for free and reduced lunches last year, NEED to fill out a new free and reduced application. A new application for free and reduced lunches needs to be filled out every new school year. Lunches are $2.00 a day. Please remember to have enough money in your child/children’s accounts. CREST VIEW PRE-K PROGRAM: Crest View is excited to offer a free half day pre-k program to families in our attendance area who have a child or children age 4 by September 1, 2009. This is an academic program that prepares 4 year olds for Kindergarten. If you know someone with a four year old who lives in the Crest View attendance area please have them call Arbor View Early Childhood, contact person is Pam Thoren at 763-391-8777.

 

CREST VIEW BEHAVIOR AND DISTRICT ELEMENTARY HANDBOOK REMINDER: Parents and guardians please read the behavior handbook with your child (ren) and make sure he/she understands our Crest View high expectations for behavior. Violence and bullying will not be tolerated at Crest View, as we value peaceful conflict resolution. After reading the Behavior Handbook, please sign and return the parent signature form. A district elementary handbook will also be sent home with your child. Please read it to understand the policies of our district.
