MUSICAL NOTES FROM MRS. QUICK: Come and celebrate the season with your children. It is a great way to start your winter break together. Friday, December 18, at 2:30 p.m. in the gymnasium Crest View is full of wonderful music makers. I have noticed students using excellent singing voices, keeping steady beats, being creative dancers and playing instruments respectfully. We have been talking about our “hopes and dreams” for music. They have been writing these dreams down and sharing them with each other. Your students want to play instruments, read notes, sing and perform in front of audiences and many other musical hopes. We are going to put them up in the hallway for everyone to see. It will create a beautiful rainbow of what our students want to work on in music. I am here to help your children experience many parts of music– hopefully in a way that will encourage them to be musicians throughout their lives. I look forward to seeing many of you at conferences.

Students are also moving ahead in their books building new skills for playing. The 5th grade orchestra had a wonderful district-wide concert on January 27. The first concert is always so exciting, and it is wonderful to see how much these students have gained in less than a half a year. Next, the students will be working on longer pieces of music, harmonizing melodies, and other new skills. Students may have extra music and hand-outs to manage. Please watch for these and help your child to work on organizing materials so music does not get lost, and it all gets practiced! Our next concert is at the end of April. Students will be having one after school rehearsal for this concert. More information will be coming home in March. The 6th grade Sinfonia students are starting to get their spring concert music, but should continue to keep their fall music handy for your spring tour which comes in May. The music for spring is challenging, and will give students much to practice. Don’t let them forget to work in their lesson books so they can continue building the skills that help them play this new music! Please don’t hesitate to call or send an email if you have questions. Don’t forget: all students must play their instruments at home at least 20 minutes per day and bring back a signed practice sheet each week. Thank you parents for taking the time to listen to your child practice at home. Ms. Gagnon, Orchestra Specialist 763-569-7670 mail box # 88969 gagnonm@district279.or http://279elemorch.blogspot.
