Cedar Island PTO Minutes-October 4, 2007

6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room

Attendees:  15 parents and staff

The meeting was called to order by president, Bonnie Keating.

Target Check: Steve Gamache was unable to be here tonight to present the check. We did receive the check however. It totaled $1589.37.

Treasurer’s Report:  Shannon Manning

Students sold $45,000 in Innisbrook products. That is $500 over budget.

We need to provide a reminder to parents to sign up Cedar Island on their Target credit cards so our school can receive the benefits.

Principal’s Report:  Dan Wald

We purchased mulch for the school grounds with money budgeted for School Aesthetics/Beautification. Staff provided many hours of labor and their own plants to make our school yard look very nice.

The District is looking to fill committee positions to achieve District missions. There is an application to apply if interested.

We talked about bringing back the traditional 6 th Grade trip to Long Lake in the Spring. It is a two night environmental camp. We discussed the idea of butter braid sales in November to help offset the cost of camp. There would not be a big push to sell butter braids. Instead we would provide the opportunity for every family in the school to buy butter braids for themselves. The idea was well received. We will also provide a table at Turkey Bingo for the 6 th graders to sell butter braids. They will probably sell well for the holidays.

Volunteer Update:  Barb Lindsay

Vision and hearing screening was completed today. Fall dance is tomorrow night. Book fair starts next week. PTO is providing meals for staff during conferences. Fall picnic is October 26 th. Innisbrook delivery is October 30 th. Deb will provide a phone tree. October 31 st is Innisbrook party. Student Express will start in the second to last week of October. It provides fun for the students and experience for 6 th graders to work in a store.

DPAC Update: Dan Wald

Dan explained what the District Parent Advisory Council was. They are in need of a representative. The meetings are held monthly at 7pm. Participating on this council gives you a big picture at the district level.

RIF Funding Request: Bonnie Keating

1900 books are needed to provide 3 distributions of RIF this year. The school is in need of money to provide good quality books. We are short $1000 to buy the books. It was requested that the PTO provide $1000 to help buy these books. A motion was made to provide the $1000. The motioned was seconded.  The motion passed.

Other Items: Jim Stanley

Jim presented the idea of pre-sale raffle tickets in February prior to the Bobcat Bash. We would provide a few items in the raffle and allow the buyer to designate which raffle item they want to try to win. This idea was well received. Others felt it has worked well to raise money in other schools.

The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
