Cedar Island PTO Minutes-September 6, 2007
7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room
Attendees: 8 parents and 3 staff
The meeting was called to order by president, Bonnie Keating.
Treasurer’s Report: Shannon Manning
The treasurer’s report was passed out. $7,600 in salary money was saved from last year’s budget. The $5,000 technology money will be spent this year-from last year’s budget. The magnets were purchased to start this year.
Principal’s Report: Dan Wald
There have been some leads on the vandalism to Cedar Island. Mr. Wald is working with the police department. The school board will be asking the district for a levy referendum for the November 2007 election. The 3 questions will be: 1. Renew an existing $7 million levy set to expire in 2007 and increase general education revenue by $8 million, plus an increase each year at the rate of inflation. 2. Increase general education revenue by another $8 million, plus an increase each year at the rate of inflation, to reduce cuts to programs and services. Question 2 is contingent on the passage of Question 1. 3. Approve a capital project levy of $5 million for the purchase and installation of software, technology equipment, and the support and maintenance of technology. Question 3 is contingent on the passage of Question 1 and 2. Cedar Island will run an information campaign to get information passed out. Anyone interested in serving on the district committee should speak with Mr. Wald. Bonnie Keating expressed interest in helping with this. Cedar Island will continue to work on reading this year. We made good growth last year in reading.
Volunteer Update: Barb Lindsay
The volunteer booklet will be sent out at a later date. Watch for half slips of paper for current volunteer needs. The Cedar Island dance is October 5. The Book Fair starts the first night of conferences, Oct. 8. The school BBQ is Oct. 26.
Budget for 2007-2008: Bonnie Keating
Discussion on deleting the $500 classroom gifts item was held. The expenses for this year will exceed the revenues, yet there is a large balance in savings, noted Bonnie Keating. A motion was made by Shannon Manning to pass the 2007-2008 budget. The motion was seconded by Leslie Lundgren. The motion passed.
Other Items:
The October 4th PTO meeting will begin at 6:30 with a presentation at 7:00 from the Vote Yes campaign for the upcoming levy. A babysitting service will be available for that meeting.
Innisbrook Sales: Leslie Lundgren
Innisbrook sales are the main fundraiser for the school. Last year we earned $23,600. We get 50% profit from sales. We hope to sell $45,000 of product this year. The sale dates are Sept. 12-26. One packet will be sent home per family. Sept. 28 is processing day and everyone is invited to help. Oct. 30, (2:30-8:30) is delivery day. Product payment is collected while picking up the product at Cedar Island. The inflatable party will be held again this year as a reward for Innisbrook sales. This will replace the fall party and pizza party.
The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
