Cedar Island PTO Minutes- December 6, 2007
7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room
Attendees: 6 parents and 3 staff
The meeting was called to order by president, Bonnie Keating.
Treasurer’s Report: The budget was passed out by president, Bonnie Keating. The Innisbrook fund raiser income was $1,708 less than the budgeted $21,000. Turkey Bingo income was $1,177. The Fall Dance brought in $1,326. Target income is $1,589. The October Book Fair netted $1,653.
Principal’s Report: Dan Wald
1. Some parents have expressed interest in helping families with economic needs at Cedar Island. Mr. Wald will be sending home a note for gift certificate donations for families in need during the holiday season.
2. February is I Love to Read month. Mr. Wald asked if there was interest to schedule an author to visit Cedar Island. The cost is approximately $500. A motion was made to schedule an author in February. The motion was seconded and passed.
3. Levy information. The district needs to cut $16 million from the budget due to the failure of question number two on the levy. Potential budget reductions are being considered by the school board. A consultant has been hired to do research and provide the district with data that includes potential school closings and boundary adjustments. Two action teams and a core planning team will work on strategic plan budgeting. The Core Planning Team will assess the alignment of the budget to the Strategic Plan for the district. A working timeline handout was passed out. The timeline includes the Strategic Plan Budget submitted to the Board for discussion on February 5 or 6, 2008. Public Hearings to be held on February 6, 13, and 19. The Board approves schools, boundary changes, and number of staff, and program priorities on March 5, 2008.
4. Cedar Island is planning to start a targeted services program. State money is used to help support education of students falling through the cracks with after school programs.
5. The dates of the Long Lake trip for sixth graders has been changed to May 28-30.

DPAC Update: No report.
The January PTO meeting will be held from 6:30 to 7:00, with a speaker on the new math curriculum to follow.
