Cedar Island PTO Minutes – Thurs. May 8, 2008
7:00 p.m. in Conference Room
Attendees: 6 parents and 3 staff
Treasurer’s Report: Shannon Manning
The treasurer’s report was passed out. The flower sale total of $4,595 was added to the budget. Box Tops revenues were down this year. Target revenues were $500 over projections. The miscellaneous expenses include check printing, donations, zipper pulls and art adventure.
Principal’s Report: Dan Wald
Dan reported that the staff really appreciated the nice things being done for Teacher Appreciation Week. The luncheon was great. The Northwest testing is now called MAP testing and is computerized. The steering committee is meeting weekly to design the campus model. Preview night for Oak View, Basswood and Early Childhood families will be held soon. This event is to welcome the new families to Cedar Island. Dan spoke about the configuration of the building next year and the number of sections for each grade.
Volunteer Update: Barb Lindsay
The Volunteer Appreciation breakfast will be held Fri. May, 9. Next week is the last week of the walk at recess program. Next Friday is the all student walk to school day. A field trip for student helpers will be at the Cinema Grill in New Hope. A picnic will be held on June 3 rd, on Super Kids Day, for families and students. PTO will pay for the cost of the families that attend this event. Parents are welcome to stay during Super Kids Day. The sixth graders will run the stations. The cookie dough sales are being processed. We hope to clear $2-3,000 in profit. Delivery is on May 22 nd. The plant sale made $1,300 in profit, enough to reduce the cost from $125 to $80 for each sixth grader to attend Long Lake.
Odd and Ends: Bonnie Keating
On May 27, Oak View students will visit Cedar Island. Zipper pulls will be given to the students. Bonnie passed around a sample. The mugs are ordered. Shannon Manning volunteered to organize the Fall Ice Cream Social at Open House.
2008-2009 Budget: Bonnie Keating
The proposed budget for next year was passed out. The salaries will be the same for next year. Sara Krueger made a motion to accept the budget. Kathy Nistler seconded the motion. The motion passed. Cedar Island will transfer some funds to Oak View, with the thinking that the students should benefit from the money they earned while at Cedar Island. Bonnie suggested to transfer the money to Oak View in September.
Bylaw Changes: Bonnie Keating
Two changes were presented. One change allows for the addition of a campus liaison to the executive board starting next year. This position may be a current board member or a separate elected position. The second change allows for the executive board to be elected for a transitional term, not to exceed one year in length. At some point during the 2008-09 school year, a President and a Secretary will be elected for a two year term. The assistant treasurer will remain in office for the entire 2008-2009 school year and then assume the duties of treasurer without the need for a reelection.
A motion to accept the bylaws as amended was made by Barb Lindsay. The motion was seconded by Sara Krueger. The motion passed.
Joint PTO Meeting Summaries: Bonnie, Sara Krueger and Shannon Manning
Joint PTO calendars were passed out and discussed.
New Officer Elections: Bonnie Keating
Sara Krueger was the candidate for PTO President. Kathy Nistler was the candidate for PTO Secretary. An assistant treasurer is still needed. The secretary was asked to cast the single ballot and the officers stated above were elected.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
