OARE Scholarship Breakfast
This year’s event will be held Friday, December 1st (mark reporting day!) from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. It will be held in the Osseo Senior High cafeteria as it has been in the past. Proceeds from the breakfast will be donated to the OARE Scholarship Fund.

Legislative Network: A Call for Your Support
In this installment of my eNewsletter, I’d like to enlist the support of the community in a districtwide effort to communicate the needs of our schools to our state legislators. As you may know, the 85th legislature will convene in just a few short weeks to begin the process that will lead to important decisions related to health care, transportation, education, and other areas affecting our life here in Minnesota.

State Releases Results Of The New And More Challenging MCA’S
The Minnesota Department of Education released the results of the 2006 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCAs) today. As the public pores over the data, they will quicklyStudents notice a number of changes. First, the test is completely new, the standards are much higher and more grade levels are tested. In addition, the performance or proficiency targets for individual students who take the test, as well as the performance targets for schools, have changed. In fact, the test is so different it is called the MCA II.

Professional Learning Communities at Work
Rick DuFour Becky DuFourThe District Workshop on December 8, 2006, will focus on the important work of Professional Learning Communities. Rick and Becky DuFour will be the keynote speakers. The district has already invested time and resources into the training of staff on what it means to BE a Professional Learning Community. The opportunity to hear best selling authors and speakers Rich and Becky DuFour will be a motivating and informative opportunity for all staff. The presentation will cover topics including: a review of the characteristics and the value of effective Professional Learning Communities; a discussion of the impact on student learning; a reminder of the importance of deep, collaborative discussion of the 4 Critical Questions; and an explanation of the process of moving from knowing to doing to being a collaborative community. In addition, the presenters will discuss the importance of selecting/determining essential outcomes, creating common assessments and providing interventions for students so that all students learn at high levels. This is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of Professional Learning Communities and to move us closer to BEING a Professional Learning Community. Presentation begins promptly at 8:00 and ends at 11:30, Church of the Open Door, 9060 Zanzibar Lane, Maple Grove.
