Message From The Superintendent
Uniting Communities of Excellence
I want to thank our ISD 279 community for approving Question #1 on the November 6 Levy Referendum. The funds will help make up for losses in state aid over the last four years and allow us to continue our focus on student learning.
The Question #2 denial means we cut $16-$18 million from the $126 million of our system’s available 2008-09 budget. The School Board will make the final cuts; this will most likely mean the loss of teachers, administrators, and support staff; closure of at least one school; redrawing of school boundaries; loss of bus service for students who live between one and two miles from their school; and program reductions and higher fees for extra-curricular activities.

Maple Grove Junior High Choir Students to Perform with MN All-State Jr. High Choir
Each year, the Minnesota ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) sponsors an auditioned all-state honor choir experience for singers from across the state of Minnesota. Two Maple Grove Junior High choir students were selected to participate in this year’s 100 voice choir called “Anacrusis.” The two exceptional singers selected to perform in the 7th and 8th grade Anacrusis All-State Girls Honor Choir are Justine Barnes (grade 7) and Annah Despain (grade 8). Their director is Ms. Alys Nelson.
The Anacrusis choirs will present their concert on November 16 at the ACDA Fall Convention at the Marshall School in Duluth. Sue Gilsdorf, director of the Stillwater Junior High choirs and a member of the VoiceCare Network, will direct the Anacrusis All-State Girls Honor Choir this year.
Hundreds of students audition for these prestigious choirs. Our hearty congratulations go to these outstanding singers who have earned this fine recognition!
Community Invited to Holiday Scholarship Breakfast
As a part of the Osseo Area Retired Educators’ (OARE) community service, a Holiday Scholarship Breakfast is served annually to provide college scholarships for ISD 279 seniors. Last year, three deserving area high school seniors were awarded scholarships of $1200 each.
