Message From The Superintendent
A Never-Ending Love of Teaching
I love to teach. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher when I was twelve years old and in 7th grade, but I didn’t know what I would teach. I decided if I taught at the elementary level, I could teach everything, so that’s where I began. After teaching first grade and music, I taught junior high reading, high school English, and Adult Basic Education. I taught gifted and talented classes before teaching courses for Indiana University. When I became a principal, my classroom was the entire school – students, teachers, support staff, and parents. As a former assistant superintendent, my classroom included all the principals in the district.

ISD 279 Students Performing at Orchestra Hall

Child On Monday, November 19, more than 500 student musicians from ISD 279 will perform in one of the premier concert halls in the country, Orchestra Hall. Students representing Maple Grove Senior High School, Osseo Senior High School, and Park Center Senior High School will be on stage, as well as the District 279 Children’s Chorus.

Kindergarten in District 279

ISD 279’s Early Childhood Family Education program is offering an evening informational program on children starting Kindergarten and school readiness. There will be discussion on how to observe children for readiness, activities to encourage transition, school program expectations, and how to enhance a child’s success in school. Join us on Wednesday, November 14, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Arbor View Early Childhood Center, 9401 Fernbrook Lane in Maple Grove, or Thursday, December 6, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Willow Lane Early Childhood Center, 7020 Perry Avenue North in Brooklyn Center. Call 763-391-8777 if requesting child care for the evening.
