In the wake of the violence that swept across our country in the past few months, I want to thank those of you who have called to ask what can be done to keep our schools safe. My answer is rooted in the belief that we are all responsible for making our schools safe. It begins with you and me, and it requires that we build relationships, one person at a time.

District 279 Magnet Schools Choice Fair
Students in the Osseo School District have an exciting educational opportunity. Magnet schools provide students with learning adventures that take them beyond the traditional instructional experience. They are designed around specialized themes that appeal to students’ interests & aptitudes.
Please visit us at the Choice Fair on Saturday, November 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove Community Center. Students from Osseo Area Magnet Schools will be performing at the times listed below.
Birch Grove Elementary [11:00 - 11:45 am]
North View Junior High [11:45 - 12:15 pm]
Edgewood Elementary [1:00 - 1:45 pm]
The Power of Choice - Magnet School Open House
Osseo Area Schools will again offer the option for students to apply to attend a magnet school for next year. Parents in District 279 may apply for their child to attend any of the magnet schools that are part of the Northwest Suburban Integration School District. These magnet schools focus on the arts; science, math and technology; and the International  Baccalaureate Programme. Within the Osseo district, the magnet school options include Birch Grove School for the Arts; Edgewood Elementary: A Science, Math and Technology School; North View Junior High Middle Year’s Programme Candidate School; and Park Center Senior High Middle Year’s Programme Candidate School and (pending funding) A Global Studies Magnet School. Parents and students can learn more about their choice options at the Northwest Suburban Choice Fair to be held at the Maple Grove Community Center on Saturday, November 4th, from 10:00 – 3:00.

Fernbrook Students Connect to the World
 On November 2, 2006 Fernbrook students will participate in Megaconference VIII. Like any professional conference, presenters and audience members will discuss current projects and developments. Unlike other conferences, hundreds of participants, including Fernbrook students will gather and connect simultaneously from all over the world using advanced networks, from universities, K-12 schools, and organizations to share thoughts and greetings. This year's theme -- Breaking Down the Barriers: Global Connections-- focuses on improving understanding between individuals and cultures, using video conferencing tools.
Fernbrook Elementary is the only elementary school in Minnesota to connect directly to this world wide event.
