Celebrating Our Marvelous Magnet Schools
The week of May 7-11, 2007 was clearly a week to celebrate the amazing success of District 279’s magnet schools. As a point of reference, District 279 began considering magnet schools in 2004 as a way to better integrate our learning community and to offer voluntary choice in a district that had been declared by the State as "racially segregated isolated."

Fair Oaks Counselor, Dave Warner, Named 2007 Elementary Counselor of the Year
The Minnesota School Counselors Association has named Dave Warner 2007 Elementary Counselor of the Year. Dave has been working as a counselor in the Osseo School District for the last seven years. A graduate from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, he spent his first two years as a counselor at Elm Creek Elementary and Osseo Elementary. He spent the next two years at Woodland Elementary, Cedar Island Elementary, and Fair Oaks Elementary, and for the last three years he has worked at Fair Oaks full-time.

Edgewood and Rice Lake Recognized for Excellence in Assistive Technology
More than 20 Minnesota citizens, educators and organizations were recognized April 11 during a State Capitol ceremony for their commitment to removing barriers to independence for people with disabilities through the use of assistive technology.

Maple Grove Junior High’s Dean Laager Inducted into MN U. S. Slow Pitch "Hall of Fame"
 Dean Laager, Phy Ed and DAPE teacher at Maple Grove Junior High, was inducted into the Minnesota U.S. Slow Pitch Softball Association Hall of Fame earlier this year. Dean, along with other inductees, was honored on January 13, 2007 at the Crown Plaza in Brooklyn Center. At the banquet, the inductees received their Minnesota USSSA Hall of Fame Ring and Awards.
