Two ISD 279-Osseo Area Schools Recognized as
Magnet Schools of Excellence
Magnet Schools of America (MSA), a national organization dedicated to building better leadership in magnet schools, has announced that Birch Grove and Edgewood Elementary Schools have each been named a “Magnet School of Excellence.”
Edgewood Elementary is a Science, Math and Technology magnet school and Birch Grove is an Arts magnet. These are the only two Minnesota magnet schools to be honored with the School of Excellence award this year. The two schools are part of ISD 279 – Osseo Area Schools and are both located in Brooklyn Park.
“This is the top category of awards given by Magnet Schools of America,” said Dr. Robert Brooks, executive director of MSA. “The award is based on number of items including commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful diversity efforts and the consistent delivery of quality services to all school stakeholders.”
The principal of Edgewood Elementary, Gretchen Peel said, “This is a wonderful honor for both Edgewood and Birch Grove Schools. This award once again demonstrates that Osseo Area Schools are leaders in Minnesota and the United States.”
In total, just 50 schools across the country were named a Magnet School of Excellence. The two ISD 279 schools will be honored with plaques at the 26 th Annual Magnet Schools of America national conference to be held in late April in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
